Some how, some way, because I was trying everything, I found where I could back up my files. This is how I started getting the BOOTMGR missing message:
#BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD THE SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE PATH SPECIFIED SOFTWARE#
This isn't the software you are referring to is it? I actually burned Ubuntu to a CD and tried that but I was having trouble figuring it out so gave up on it.
#BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD THE SYSTEM CANNOT FIND THE PATH SPECIFIED FREE#
Should I try that? Where can I get the free partition wizard so that I can try it. But I didn't try going into Bios and disabling AHCI mode and setting it to ATA or IDE, which someone recommended at the end. Will restoring to factory settings delete any of my files? The link you provided I actually read already and tried it all with no luck. Yes I do believe I have the recovery partition on my hdd. Well one day when I opened it back up, it had apparently shut off and when I turned it on I received the BSOD. My laptop is usually always running, I just close it and it sleeps.

What was I doing when I started getting the BSOD? Nothing actually. To get to the command prompt I boot from the recovery disk, that is the only way I can get to the command prompt ever since recieving the BOOTMGR missing message. Restarted computer and still received BOOTMGR is missing. The system cannot find the path specified. Here is what I received for the different commands presented in this link: I received the same information as above for the same commands that I entered in. Here are the results from the second link you provided:Īgain, wasn't able to select the operating system because it wasn't there so I proceeded to the command prompt. I restarted the computer per the instructions and received the same message "BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl Alt Del to restart. I re-tried solution 2 as you requested and when I clicked on repair your computer I was asked to choose an operating system in which none was present so I clicked next and selected command prompt. So I just selected Internal CD/DVD ROM Drive as the first boot device, I can change it back if this is incorrect. I didn't see the option for optical device. In the setup utility I navigated to Boot Options and accessed my boot order. The fourth one down was F10 BIOS Setup, this is what I chose to enter the BIOS (hope this is correct). I entered BIOS by pressing Esc as soon as the Notebook started up, this took me to the Startup Menu where I was given a couple of optoins. Any other suggestions? I don't understand where my operating system went. Since I received that message I stopped here.

Since I was not able to type "Yes" because I was never presented with the installation path of a Windows directory as the instructions stated, I did the next step to remove the BCD store and recreate it, below are my results: Total identified Windows installations: 0 Successfully scanned Windows installations. Please wait, since this may take a while. Scanning all disks for Windows installations. This allows me to perform solution 2 but it still didn't work, maybe because I wasn't able to select an operating system? Here are the steps I did and the results I received from solution #2 (everything after bootrec /rebuildbcd

I can however bypass that to get to command prompt by just clicking next and not selecting an operting system. I tried the method(s) through the link you provided germ-x and both solutions didn't work because I didn't have a operating system to select. Processor Type - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 2.40GHz

Notebook Model - HP Pavillion dv7 Notebook PC Below is some system information you may need, anything else please let me know. I am very patient but this is getting to be a real pain and has wasted so much of my time so I would greatly appreciate any help. I have also made a Windows Vista 圆4 Recovery disk and have been using that to attempt to fix these issues.

Press ctrl, alt, delete to restart," then from trying to fix that I discovered my operating system was missing! So I'll attempt to fix the latter of the issues first since I cannot really accomplish anything without having an operating system. My problem actually started off with "the blue screen of death." From there I began to get "Bootmngr is missing. I am trying to avoid reinstalling because I do not want to loose any of my files as some are very important. I have been having a problem with my computer for three days now.
